Wine Advocate on DOMAINE CHAPEL

Titre

David Chapel and his American wife Michele Smith-Chapel launched Domaine Chapel with the 2016 vintage, and they represent a decidedly rising star in the Beaujolais firmament. Full carbonic maceration is the order of the day here, and all their wines boast filigree tannins, succulent acids and meltingly textural profiles...Working steep parcels of Chiroubles and Fleurie by hand and with a cable plough, there's also no doubting the blood, sweat and tears being devoted to this fledgling domaine.

William Kelley, August 2018

The 2018 Fleurie Charbonnières wafts from the glass with high-toned aromas of raspberries, cherries, rose petals and licorice. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, with an ample core of fruit, succulent acids and a saline finish. This bottle flirts with volatility, but it's beautifully balanced, with real structural elegance, so I found much to admire. I'm looking forward to trying it again before too long to see if it settles down with a little bottle age.
