Sokol Blosser is one of the pioneering estates of the Oregon state wine industry. This wine captures and expresses the delicate fruit characteristics associated with Pinot Noir, and is balanced with structure and age-ability. This blend represents the entire Estate with barrels selected from nearly every corner of the property. Aromas of fresh cherries and raspberries with a rich palate of pie cherries, baking spices and a hint of baked earth. Soft tannins and raspberries linger on the finish.
In our 45th growing year at Sokol Blosser was very special: their earliest bloom on record. You can just about set your clock from the time of bloom to the first day of harvest…100 days. Grapes were harvested in August as it was not a especially dry year and typical heavy rainfall hit in the winter of 2015 and 2016. The winery was very happy with the fruit knowing it is a vintage of excellent quality.
The grapes were carefully hand harvested at 22-26° Brix. Some vineyard sections were harvest based on acid levels to retain delicacy and some were focused on higher intensity of fruit flavors. All fruit was sorted by hand to remove any flawed bunches and de-stemmed directly into either 3-ton stainless steel fermenters or 2.5-ton oak upright fermenters. 35% of the fermentation from this block was done using the Sokol Blosser native yeast program. Cap management was done via gentle punch downs up to 2 times per day. Post fermentation, 25% of the blend was kept on its skins for 30+ days for extended maceration, the remaining portion was pressed off the skins at dryness (~10-15 days of skin contact time). This wine was aged in 100% French oak barrels for 17 months with minimal SO2 levels. 36% of the blend was aged in new oak barrels with the remaining portion aged in once used or neutral oak.

Limpid ruby-red. Displays pungent cherry pit, redcurrant, tobacco and floral scents that pick up a smoky nuance with air. Sappy and penetrating in the mouth...black raspberry, succulent herb flavors and a hint of dark chocolate. In a savory, vaguely Old World style, showing sharp delineation and youthful tannic grip on a long, spice-accented finish. (26% new French oak).See detailed press review
