At heart, Catena is a story about family. Family who poured their lives, passion and spirit into transforming scrub-laden desert into some of the most beautiful and unique vineyards in the world. Family that passed their knowledge from generation to generation, blending collective memory with state-of-the-art science from the new world of viticulture. Family who, through risk-taking, faith and a little luck, transformed their treasured Mendoza terroir into the fountainhead of the award-winning...
The Adrianna vineyard is located at almost 5,000’ ft elevation in the Gualtallary sub-district of the Tupungato region, Mendoza. The rocky, gravely soil prevents deep root growth and allows for ideal drainage conditions. The cool nights allow for very slow ripening, optimal acid retention and low yields.
Grapes were cold settled for 12 hours in stainless steel tanks at 6º C., followed by fermentation in French oak barrels for 45 - 95 days at 16°C. Partial malolactic fermentation. Aged for 12-16 months in 2nd, 3d and 4th use French oak barrels. Unfined and unfiltered.

My favorite of the Adrianna whites, the 2016 White Stones Chardonnay was cropped from a low-yielding, cool and wet year, very unusual weather in Mendoza. It's sharp, austere, mineral and long. No matter how impressed I was with the 2015 or the two vintages of the White Bones I tasted next to it, this stole the show. It has a combination of mineral notes that transmit a serious sensation with hints of flowers, spices and herbs that show in a very subtle way. The palate is liquid chalk, with sharp and pungent flavors, nicely textured. It's precise, linear, long and sharp, with great length and persistence. It will be fascinating to see how this wine evolves in bottle, because I think we can have a big surprise in ten years from now.See detailed press review

This is super focused and powerful with precision and energy. It's full yet so tightly-wound and gorgeous. It just races down the palate. Dried apples, pineapple and salt. Wonderful future.See detailed press review

Always priced just above White Stones, even if it’s sourced from the same vineyard lot, this is consistently one of the best Chardonnays in the New World. Chalky, zesty and effortlessly complex, with a briney, iodine-like note, stylish oak and a freshness that lingers on the palate.See detailed press review

White Stones is always sourced from the alluvial soils of Lot 1 in an old riverbed. Peachy, ripe and textured, with subtle oak, hints of tangerine and baking spices and a zesty, limestone edged finish, it’s got more acidity than you think at first. One of two superb Chardonnays from the Adrianna site.See detailed press review

(from vines at an altitude of about 4,800 feet, on soil rich in white stones and gravel): Bright, light greenish-yellow. The ineffable nose offers a wonderfully complex blend of white fruits, flowers and minerals. Dry, tight and light on its feet, with its pear, mineral and baking spice flavors a bit compressed in the early going. A distinctly vertical wine but also quite deep. Finishes very firm and long, with terrific salty pungency and slowly building lift...See detailed press review
